Obtaining a residence permit in Slovakia

There are several ways to get a Slovakian visa:

  • Visa for business people, on the condition of establishing an SRO company or a private živnost business in Slovakia. An SRO company similar to a limited company and živnost' similar to a licensed or exempt dealer;

  • Studies in an academic institution or a preparatory school for Slovak language studies;

  • Finding a job in Slovakia (usually experts are required for foreign companies or workers for large factories, construction sites, etc.);

  • Family reunification (if your spouse has Slovak citizenship or resident status);

  • Resident status for people of Slovak origin living abroad;

  • Work permit for an athlete;

  • Blue Card for skilled workers.

How much will I spend on living abroad?

Earn in your home country and live abroad!

These days, the media is talking about the cost of living and the hallway conversations at work also deal with the difficulty that many people experience in this simple matter of paying the bills, i.e., the expenses should not exceed the income. It turns out that the rising prices during the days of the Corona virus brought many people who are considered middle class and earn a good amount overall, to a frustrating situation where they are unable to cope with the price increase. Some of us are starting to think about relocating to a cheaper country, especially when today so many people work online and from home.

Slovakia for example, which is a country with a good standard of living, but relatively cheap prices, even today, after the energy crisis and the increase in gas and fuel prices.

The salary ranges from 700 to 1500 euros per month, on average.

The family budget of a couple + 2 is divided as follows:

  • Housing costs tend to range between 700 and 1300 euros per month including bills (gas, electricity, etc.)

  • Expenses for shopping at the supermarket - food, cleaning products and more - 300-500 euros

  • Car expenses - about 100 euros per month, not including insurance (leasing - about 300 euros)

  • Expenses for children (kindergarten, school, stationery, class, travel) - 100-200 euros per month, per child

  • Additional expenses such as pharmacy and clothing - 100 euros

All this gives us an amount of about 2000 euros per month for the family, without exaggerating and a chance to save money.

Yes, but if we work in my origin country, how can i get a temporary residency permit abroad?

If you are living with the partner, it is possible to arrange it between you: one partner who has a secure online job with a fixed salary on the side, will keep his job even from abroad. The other partner, on the other hand, can always find remote work in the origin country as well. You can get a temporary residents visa and decide if you want to find a job in your origin country or study, work or start a business in Slovakia. You can find a job in one of the international companies, enroll in one of the many educational institutions (studies in the Slovak language have a minimal cost, in English - about 1000 euros per semester), or open a business in Slovakia with a modest investment, usually a few thousand euros.

Self-employed? You can earn your salary and pay less taxes

If you are used to being independent and want to try your luck at opening a business in Slovakia, you have excellent conditions for that. You can do business not only in Slovakia, but also in Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, in short the entire European Union is open to you. Taxes in Slovakia are low, for example, corporate tax is 15% and  dividend tax is only 7%. As mentioned, whoever starts a business in Slovakia enjoys similar rights to a citizen of the European Union, because he receives a temporary resident visa, which grants a status that allows him to settle in the country on condition that the business remains profitable (and this must be reported to the Slovakian authorities a year later and thereafter). We at Rstate assist our customers in the entire process of starting and managing a business, and we will be happy to provide you with advice on the matter.
